There are only two routes for the pilgrimage. The first one is the Baltal Route and the second one is the Pahalgam Route, also known as the Chandanwari Route. The holy cave of Baba Barfani is located 14 km from Baltal. However, the path on this route is more difficult. The holy cave is 32 km away from Chandanwari. But the path on this route is slightly easier than that of Baltal. It takes two days to reach the holy cave via this route. You can complete the journey on foot, by pony or by helicopter.
The pilgrimage to Shri Amarnath Ji is difficult because there are no hotels along the route. Private tent accommodation is available for staying. Hot water can be purchased for bathing, and there are plenty of food stalls available. The atmosphere is such that the difficulty of the journey is not felt.
There are three cloakroom facilities available during the pilgrimage at Baltal Base Camp, Nunwan Base Camp (Pahalgam), and Holy Cave Base Camp. Parking facility is only available at the Baltal Base Camp.
